Soul City Easter Party with The Revenge!
Ladies and gentlemen we are very excited about our next party.
We return to embassy bar on Easter Sunday for a full on soul city with very special guest The Revenge!
The Revenge burst into the public ear in 2007 as part of the Ooft collective, releasing quality edits and reworks of numerous soul and disco legends, via their blog - ooft.blogspot.com
Since then his own productions for Five20East and his DJ edits for L.E.S.S. Productions, Jisco and Instruments Of Rapture have had across-the-board support from scene heavyweights including Danny Krivit, Jimpster, Radio Slave, Prins Thomas, Todd Terje, The Unabombers, Karizma, SWAG, Gilles Peterson, Ashley Beedle, Atjazz, Bill Brewster, Phil Asher and many more.
DJ work over the years has included spots with Joe Claussell, Jazzy Jeff, MAW, Domu, Mark E, Mad Mats, Seiji, Jeff Mills and a whole host of others, including a massive gig for London party stalwarts Low Life.
New projects for 2009 include releases on his new vinyl-only label Instruments Of Rapture, a release with Craig Smith on Jimpster’s new label and on Soul Heaven, a remix for Phonica's new imprint, the debut single with Harri on Raoul Galloway's (Faith Fanzine) label alongside new material on Five20East.
If you havent heard him yet, download the mixes below to get a taste of the Revenge sound...

Hang on in there
Pulling out a special selection of disco, boogie and soul we have the mighty residents of Soul City, Matty Archer and Si Finnegan.
A special session with the boys back to back all night upstairs.
All in all it promises to be a cracking Easter Sunday - celebrating the fact we can party and not have to worry about work on Monday!
Can't wait for it - see ya on the dancefloor!

Soul City Xmas Party with Atjazz!
Ladies and Gentlemen, we are incredibly happy to say we are BACK!
For a special Christmas party - Soul City is donning its christmas hat and pullin out the crackers for a night of deepness, soulful sounds, disco & boogie and all round goodness...yes indeed, the Christmas festivities start here!
Moving to a new venue to get the Soul City wagon back on the road we have a crackin line up across two rooms.
Firstly......in the bassment we have a UK deep house maestro, producer of arguably the best album of 2008 (Full Circle, if you dont already have it!) and hot off the back of his remix of Tone Control's new release...Poussez vs Demarkus Lewis "Passing Thru" (Available at http://www.kudosrecords.co.uk/tonecontrol )...we present none other than Atjazz!
Martin "Atjazz" Iveson moved from the North-East of England to the Midlands city of Derby in 1991 to take a position as in-house musician for the then fledgling video games company that went on to produce the massive 'Tomb Raider' series. Not content with sound tracking one of the world's biggest computer games, Martin's passion for music saw him set up his own studio and record label, Mantis, from which he could give a free rein to his personal music aspirations and giove other like minded producers to ability to do the same.
Mantis Recordings moved onwards building a solid yet varied catalogue of releases, and the Atjazz albums That Something, Labfunk and Labresults followed. While tracks on his debut album hinted at a particular Atjazz sound, it was the latter albums that cemented his reputation as a world class producer with a distinctive yet diverse method to his sound, and making him an in demand producer, remixer and DJ.
His brand new album 'Full Circle 'sees Atjazz working with a plethora of superb singers, songwrtiters & musicians taking his productions to another level.
As mentioned, if you dont already have it, get it from here cos its a BANGER (http://www.juno.co.uk/products/312083-1.htm)
Alongside Atjazz we have our soul city residents Matty Archer and Si Finnegan....who will supply the tunes to make us groove like no we know no others can. Expect a proper head-down session of dancing, we are ready to hit it hard!!!!
Upstairs, if that wasn't enough for you, we have the return, remarkably, of the king himself, louie.
Playing a spread of soul, boogie and disco - feast your ears on his mighty return, plus some special guests to help him through the night!!!
It's always good to be back on the dancefloor, but Soul City Christmas parties are extra special - so we look forward to catchin up with you all for a boogie.

Soul City : Saturday 5th April - The return of Joey Negro!
Agora, Akabu, Avalanche, Doug Willis, Energise, Foreal People, Hed Boys, Jakatta, Joey Negro, Jupiter Beyond, Mistura, Prospect Park, Raven Maize, Raw Essence, Rodox, Sessomatto, Z Factor, Il Padrinos, Life On Earth, M-D-Emm, Masters Of The Universe, Men From Mars, Pacha, Skeletor and The Sunburst Band...just a few of the many, many, names our April guest has recorded under.
If you need a further hint, he rocked the Soul City 2nd birthday to the FOUNDATIONS with an amazing set of soulful music of all kinds which is still downloaded and enjoyed all over the world, 3 years later!
Still none the wiser? Then let us put you out of your misery...
Soul City people, we are ecstatic to welcome back, Mr Dave Lee AKA JOEY NEGRO
Yes, ladies and gentlemen, April Soul City is going to be, without a shadow of a doubt, on FIRE.
There are few memories that better the night that Joey Negro dropped bomb after bomb back in August 2005.
It's time to re-create the magic. The bassment vibe is gonna be in FULL effect.
Expect the full spectrum of real disco, garage and house in a mix that only he can do, in front of just 100 of our most faithful.
It is rare to see a DJ of this stature in such intimate surroundings.
Alongside Dave we have Development's Back Room Specialist, the now-not-so-rotund ruffian Mike O'Mara, who delivered a superb set at our final party at Boulevard in June. Expect a 'full monty' of tunes from Mike from Hip Hop to Garage, and probably a fair amount of New Jack Swing. :-)
All this plus your favourite residents, the newly monikered Matty Archer and boring old same name Simon Finnegan, bringing, as always the tunes that move the Soul City dancefloor.
As you can expect, we will be very very busy for this one, tickets are STRICTLY limited to 100 people and are the bargain price of £10.
Get yours using the link above. NO guestlist, no pay on door and definitely no beard strokers, this one is strictly for the dancers.
WE JUST CAN'T WAIT - SEE YOU THERE!!!
Soul City - April 5th
£10 (+ 50p per ticket for paypal fees) |
Ticket only event. This WILL sell out.
Soul City : Saturday 2nd February - Phlash and Lodge!
January. Could there be a worse month of the year?
We return to work, probably a bit heavier than we left, and try to keep to unkeepable resolutions whilst scraping through the month with whats left of our wages after blowing it all on the excesses of Christmas & New Year.
Yep, for most of us its fair to say that january is a bit of a mare.
However do not despair, let us provide you with a little bit of light at the end of your long, dark, tunnel.
Soul City returns for the first rave up of the year and, fittingly, we've laid on a buffet of guests so juicy that it'll feel like Christmas all over again.
Our first guest needs no introduction, but let us elucidate as best we can anyway...
Legend should only be used sparingly in a world where so many things are over-hyped. This is one of those times.
In fact to call Phil Asher a london legend is probably even selling him short, such is his influence on many aspects of black music within the captial and beyond...
Founding member of Restless Soul. Founding member of the mighty Co-Op collective. Soul Heaven resident. One half of the mighty Inspiration Information which he runs alongside Patrick Forge (look out for a monster valentines bash). He has filled clubs around the world, he has driven the soulful music scene for countless years, he is a prolific producer and a fantastic DJ (he smashed soul city when he played back in the summer of '69. Actually it was 06 but you know what we mean). Look out for the fortcoming Phlash and Friends project, everything we've heard from there so far has been awesome.
This guy will bring, as he always does, fire to the dancefloor.........think funk, think hip hop, think disco, think cutting-edge house across the board, quality timeless music with big productions!
Alongside Phil we have a Soul City hero in his own right. Someone who even had a corner of Boulevard (RIP) named after him.
Ladies and gentlemen, may we (finally!) present the original House Martin - Mr. Martin Lodge.
Seen on countless dancefloors around old London Town, but........as a Founder member of Candy Apple Productions, his talents may not be known to all. Candy Apple have been churning out quality house remixes and prductions since 1996. Since then Candy Apple has released numerous singles including which have been snapped up by US record houses and major labels like Hed Kandi including an all time Soul City favourite - Youre my Number One showcasing the talents of ex-Pasadena John Banfield...
Alongside Phlash and Martin, as always, are your residents Matty EMS and Si Finnegan. Who will continue in 08 what they've been doing each party for soul city - tearin it up!!
So please dont despair, 2008 is going to be a very special year and we cant wait to share it with you
Willy and Louie
Soul City : Saturday 1st December - back in the basement with BENJI B!
Soul City is back in the basement, and this time we are very excited to bring you the sounds of the mighty Benji B!
Since launching his Deviation show on 1Xtra a few years ago, Benji has soon become one of the most exciting DJs in the UK, brining his own brand of soulful underground music...expect a party set from one of the best in the business right now...see you there!
Soul City : Saturday - 6th October - now with LIVE PA!
Soul City returns to the EP Lounge on Saturday 6th October...and its time to get DEEEEEP!
Joining us for the evening will be head honcho of The Rurals and Peng Records, Andy Compton! AND WE'RE EXCITED TO SAY.................Not only have we got andy, but we now also have his wife Marie (Tweek) singing live!
Marie has been The Rurals vocalist for over 9 years, and has recently launched a solo album. This has been done through fusing jazz, downtempo and soul along with the Rurals unique grooves to create a MASTERPIECE!!! Hear it for yourselves...http://www.peng.co.uk/shop/category1_htm
Marie will be singing live from 11.30pm so don't miss out!!!!
Also - to get you in the mood....we've got a mix from Andy right here for you.
('Right Click/Save Target as' and then you'll have a crackin mix for your pleasure!)
It's gonna go down a treat at Soul City and yet another demonstration of just how amazing the UK scene is!
Alongside Andy, as ever, are your faithful residents Matty EMS and Si Finnegan bringing the soulful sounds as Soul City rolls BACK into town!!!!
Hopefully see you there!

Soul City's 4th birthday part 2 - Saturday 4th August
After 4 amazing years at Boulevard, Soul City is moving to a new venue...but never fear, as we have found the perfect home for the friendliest party in london, ans what better as a first party there than our 4th Birthday part deux! (4th birthday part une was the soul city weekender in Toulouse, which was utterly amazing.....photos will be up on the site soon - this WILL be a fixture for next summer!!!!!)
Firstly, thank you to all who ventured out to France and partied like crazed animals, and to the DJs who played sublime music and .....photos will be up on the website soon, and make sure you check them out, it was an AWESOME venue! This will, no doubt, become a soul city regular summer event!!!
It's only fitting as we venture towards our 5th year to have two heavyweights of the UK house scene to celebrate our birthday with us. Neither of which need any introduction. Fanatix is the collaboration of Aaron Ross & Neil Pierce....over the last 3 years, the guys have bought a steady stream of acclaimed remixes and productions to our dancefloors and both Neil and Aaron are fast becoming two of the busiest names on the scene, both in the UK and worldwide. Keep an eye out for their upcoming album...
Neil is known to all at soul city for having the habit of ripping the dancefloor in two when he plays, as he has done for our last birthday with Spen and also a few weeks ago with us in France....the man's sets are stuff of soul city legend and this will be no exception......
If that isn't enough, we are extremely excited and proud to have Neil's partner in crime to join him at the decks, Aaron's debut at Soul City has been a long time coming, and we feel there is no better time than at our birthday!! Its absolutely fantastic to have Aaron, as part of Phil Asher's restless soul crew and as host of BBC1xtra's soulful house night, down at Soul City and we are massively excited!! He will, no doubt, bring some sublime cuts to rock the 'new' foundations, to miss this is to miss something extraordinary.....so don't!!
Alongside these two dons of the UK scene , we have our very own legends, the Soul City residentos Matty EMS & Si Finnegan. No DJ understands what the soul city crowd want more, and now with an even bigger space to smash, these two will continue to keep things deep and soulful in the city.......the only way they can!
Tickets are available at www.soulcity.info at the humble price of £5. They will also be available on the door, but expect this to get busy - even in our new bigger venue!!
We can't wait to celebrate, and we can't wait to get on the dancefloor, hopefully see you there!!
Willy & Louie
Soul City.....................Keepin it Soulful in the City
Soul City presents the Final Boulevard Basement Bash - Saturday 2rd June
Yes, thats right...its our last party at Boulevard! For four long years we've all joined together to raise hands and hearts in the city, down in our little cellar of soulful shenanigans, and we're very very sad to say that this is the last time we'll be hosting a Soul City there...Not to worry, because the Soul City express keeps on trucking, with our Weekender in France at the end of June AND our barnstorming 4th birthday party in July...and then a new venue sourced for parties come September, ready to do what what we do. Paaaaartaaaaaaaay!
So, who do we have lined up to shake the foundations of 40 Wellington St one last time? Only a london legend who we've wanted down in the basement for absolutely AGES...who we have all danced to for many years, its the man, the legend behind the awesome Bacardi B:Live Bar at the Southport Weekender, with a wonderful smile and a cheer we give you, none other than KEV BEADLE!!
DJ, compiler, producer, label boss and radio presenter Kev’s bio reads like a journey through the halcyon years of the jazz, jazz funk and soul scene in the UK from the early 80s to the early 90’s, right through to the recent revival and rebirth through modern manifestations of nu-jazz, broken beat and deep house.
Aside from his many DJ residencies and worldwide guest appearances Kev has maintained a radio presence through the ever increasing demand for quality radio services in its new multimedia formats. His current weekly shows include every Tuesday night 10pm – midnight on Solar Radio – Channel 0129 on Sky Digital to Northern Europe and worldwide at www.solarradio.com.
His Mind Fluid sessions at Sosho in London’s Shoreditch has also proved the man has longevity. Since 2000 Kev has taken the helm and seen him spin alongside many of his DJ peers including Gilles Peterson, Bugz in the Attic, Bob Jones, Raw Deal, Ross Allen, Benji B and Phil Asher to name but a few. He is also one of the longest-running dj residents at the legendary Southport Weekender...
Alongside Kev we have another legend in his own lifetime, one of the best known and loved DJs on the Manchester Scene...minister Mike O'Mara!
Mike has held down a number of residencies in the second best city for some years now and can currently be found as resident in the back room at the excellent Development, at Mint Lounge, playing alongside guests such as Phil Asher, Yam Who and our very own Matty EMS, Si and Louie (yes, louie!).
Expect a mixed bag from the MOM, from low bit-rate RnB & New Jack Swing Classics through to classic garage and upfront house...the perfect warm up...
We can’t wait for a full on blow out, with the Soul City ressies Matty EMS (fresh from a STORMING performance at the sands…“the 5th room at southport”) & Si Finnegan in fine fettle and ready to pounce, it’s gonna be a soul city to remember (or try and piece together the next morning)
See you there!
We would like to thank Jim, Alan, Ian, Robbo, Diego, Rob, Kahlil and all the brilliant staff at Boulevard who made it what it was over the 4 years, we've never known a team like it!!
We'd also like to thanks those that help us put the event on, from matt and the boys who have provided month in month out a crackerjack soundsystem, to the wonderful ladies becs, nic, jenny for putting up with us before and after the event, through to the mighty Ewan who does the best flyers and posters in the world! And thanks to all those who helped with CDJ's/electrics we'd lost/forgotten/simply didn't have - as Joey Negro termed it - we are like a Garage Kibbutz!
But, without doubt, most of all we'd like to thank YOU, the best crowd in London...hell, the best crowd in the known world...no event is anything without its people behind it.
Thats why in 4 years we've seen many big nights, with many big name DJs come and go just as quickly, because NOTHING can compare to a friendly and up for it crowd, and nothing can compare to the atmosphere created when you lot go for it...we are your humble servants and we love you all.
For one final time in that wonderful bassment, come on........help us keep it soulful in the city....................................
Willy and Louie
Soul City presents Karizma :: Saturday 7th April
After a 2 month hiatus, Soul City returns this Easter for an almighty monster of a party.
As two of the Soul City crew reach a new decade, we've pulled out some extra special stops to celebrate in style, and it's a long weekend, so we can ALL let (our increasingly greying) hair down because Willy and Matty will be turning 30(!), and Soul City are ready to party!
Our shenanigans down in the basement are never known for being a quiet affair, but this promises to be a belter, definitely one to log in the memory banks. We've been after this DJ for a long time as we just know that he will absolutely love it, and absolutely smash it.
For one night only.....Soul City presents 3 hours of...........KARIZMA!!!!!
From his early releases on Black Vinyl, through his highly successful phase as remixer extraordinaire alongside our previous US guest DJ Spen, right through to his eagerly awaited artist album on R2, Karizma is one of the most consistent producer/remixers out there.
He's been responsible for many a Soul City favourite, from his remix of Marvin Gaye's "music" to his own productions "In tha D.EE.P", "the power" and "Twyst This", and many more besides...
Dont be fooled though, Karizma isnt being booked just because of his productions!
He's not some pasty studio hermit playing at DJing to earn some pocket money, when he's on form hes one of the most inventive and exciting DJs in the world, as anyone who saw his recent sets at the Southport Weekender, Days Like This, Soulogic or Body Music can attest.
Edits, Loops and the odd curveball of a slow groover can always be expected, if anything can be expected!
All in all, we're pretty sure nobody will leave disappointed, and we'd like to think that applies to Karizma too, as he experiences the Soul City basement and crowd for the first time.
The ever soulful residents Matty EMS and Si Finnegan will continue till we cant take no more, with some deeply soulful sounds like no other can provide......we're hoping to go later than normal this month and we just know that the floor is gonna be rocking all night long.
This will be a Soul City NOT to miss and it will sell out.
Make your Easter, get your tickets right now!! [click here]
Happy Easter folks, see you, as ever, on the dancefloor.

Soul City :: Al Kent, Matty EMS & Si Finnegan :: Saturday 3rd February

But first a word on NYE...What a night! Thanks to everyone who made it down and made it a very special party. Some absolutely barn-storming sets from Deano, Chrissy, Billy and Soul City Ressies Matty EMS and Si Fi.

0ur february guest needs no introduction...a true favourite of Soul City, fresh from his Southport Weekender debut back in November where he wowed the Connoisseurs Corner with a frantic set of his trademark disco edits (said by many to be THE set of SP39), we are very proud to announce the return of Glasgow's finest, Mr Al Kent!
Al will be gracing us with a special soul city set as only he can, so make sure you're there to see a legend at work...
We're also giving our fantastic residents Matty EMS & Si Finnegan some extra time this month to slam the real soul city sounds down and show how we mean to go on.
They've just recently been given recognition for services to soul by getting a new radio show - now Thursday Night 10-12 each week - on Push FM.
Check it out, as we bring you the sounds of the party week-in, week-out. Sweet!
It's gonna be an absolute barn-stormer of a party, and we can't wait to get back to where we belong - groovin on the dancefloor!!!
A new year, the same vow. Soul City........Keepin it Soulful in the City.

Soul City ::Mark E (Jisco/City Rhythm)::Saturday 7th October
Soul City returns on Saturday 7th October with a guest that we're very very excited about...
Mark E's re-works of Womack & Womacks " Baby im scared of you " and Tata Vega's " Give it up for Love ", have pushed the edit phenomenon to new levels, both have been massive favourites with the soul city residents and more importantly on the soul city dancefloor…..everytime we’ve dropped one of these bombs, the roof has been ripped off!!
Not content with producing Mark has been out and about Djing, playing a broad range of styles reflecting his musical influences & tastes, ranging from detroit beatdown to midtempo boogie to tripped out dub to soul drenched disco, which makes him a perfect candidate for the basement.
Check out some of his mixes on http://www.cityrhythm.net they’re mighty mighty good!
Alongside Mark, we're giving you some proper dancefloor time with our fantastic residents, matty:eatmysoul and Si Finnegan, they rock it month in month out and know what you want more than any other, prepare for a full-on dancefloor fiesta!

Soul City 3rd birthday::DJ Spen & Neil Pierce::Saturday 8th July!
To buy tickets, please click the button below
Ladies and Gentlemen, we're not entirely sure how we did it, but next month we'll have been running Soul City down in that wonderful little basement for 3 YEARS!!!!
So we wanted to celebrate in true style, to bring you something you've never had before at Soul City. And boy have we got a treat in store.
First up, and an unbelievably happy pair we are to bring you, a man who has wowed, amazed and rocked not only our best loved parties but dancefloors around the world. Yes, the man who did THAT end set at Southport in November 05. Yes, the man who created Jasper Street Company and formed Basement Boys...Yes, the man who brought us The MuthaFunkaz (soul city tune "The Way You Love Me") it sends shivers down the spine to look at his biog, we give you, the one and only DJ SPEN!!!!
(Wow, how GOOD does that sound!)
That wasn’t enough for us though. Its our birthday after all, so we thought you should have ANOTHER DJ to rock the party, and who better than the man who knows us best, who slams the party each and every time he plays, and of course a new heavyweight of British House - resident of Soul Heaven, one 1/2 of Fanatix and head honcho of Hustle music, the fantastic Neil Pierce!
All on top of your ever soulful residents:
eatmysoul - who has rocked each and every party since we started way back when, now getting the respect he deserves from all over the UK.
Si Finnegan - new resident who has brought his own inimitable style to the cellar, delving into his frankly ridiculous record collection to get the Soul City faithful jumping.
Its obviously going to be a special party, and rightly so as we just want to say thank you to everyone for supporting us on our travels through the world of house, soul, boogie and disco for the last 3 years...we hope you've enjoyed the journey!
We certainly have and want our 3rd birthday to go down in history as another soul city classic. We (that's you and us) have built something pretty damn amazing and the main thing everyone talks about around these shores (and others!) is the crowd, how great they are, how much they love the music and the party. And they're talking about you. So....nice one!
This is going to be a total sell out - so we're only going to sell tickets online (with an email verification for purchases), they WILL sell out before the date, so please click here to purchase tickets...dont delay! It's gonna be first come first served !
Still Keeping it Soulful in the City

Soul City presents Chilifunk's 10th Anniversary - Saturday 3rd June
CHILIFUNK CELEBRATES ITS 10TH ANNIVERSARY THIS YEAR AND ARE PARTYING BIG STYLE! WE ARE ABSOLUTELY OVER THE MOON TO HAVE THEM CELEBRATING WITH US, ITS GOING TO BE A SPECIAL NIGHT IN THE BASEMENT!!
Since we started Soul City way back when, Phil Asher has been a man we’ve wanted down in the basement. Finally we managed to tie the busy man down and we know he’ll be absolutely awesome! Phil recently suffered a serious accident but it’s a testament to the guy that he was back on the decks in no time, that’s one quick recovery!
In our eyes, Phil is the don. An accomplished underground producer, talented dj and one of the unsung heroes of British House. He’s a founding member of the Restless Soul team and has produced over 80 records (one of the original restless soul productions “mama” is already a big fave at Soul City) as well as innumerable remixes, all of which receiving high critical acclaim. However. it’s his djing that we love most, funk, disco and cutting edge house across the board, quality timeless music with big productions! Check his Jazz in the House series for some quality mix CDs…
If that wasn’t enough, alongside Phil in full party mode is none other than Chillifunk head honcho Lofty. In 1996 Lofty set-up Chillifunk Records bringing his partner in crime Dr. Bob Jones on board a year later. The pair have stayed true to their aim of releasing "soulful music for funky people” (as proclaimed willy’s first ever record bag!)
During this time Chillifunk have had a high volume of releases from heavyweight artists, musicians and stellar vocalists including the likes of Ultra Nate, Phil Asher, East West Connection, Notenshun, Terry Callier, Sandy Mill, Jody Watley, Nathan Haines, Marlena Shaw, Vanessa Freeman, Snowboy and Verna Francis, to name but a few.
We can’t wait for a full on 10 year party bonanza, with the Soul City ressies eatmysoul (fresh from a STORMING performance at the sands…“the 5th room at southport”) & Si Finnegan in fine fettle and ready to pounce, it’s gonna be a soul city to remember (or try and piece together the next morning)
See you there!
Soul City Southport Warmup - Saturday 8th April
WE ALL KNOW THAT FEELING – THE FIRST FRIDAY AFTERNOON IN MAY OR NOVEMBER.
THE TRIP UP THERE...THE BUTTERFLIES, THE PROMISES TO OURSELVES TO TAKE IT STEADY ON THE FIRST NIGHT, THE NERVES ABOUT WHO COULD CLASH WITH YOU...
Then you arrive, into the welcome arms of The Sands, the friends and smiling faces, the queue of 1000 people at the bar. And then the tunes…..all night leading you right into the start of the weekender. The Saturday afternoon is a legendary session now – part of the timetable. You leave the connoisseurs after the soul session, straight to The Sands for the Guinness session – last year scene of the now inimitable ‘air church bells’ and a variety of star-spangled dancing sessions for all and sundry.
So, with Southport 38 fast approaching, we're giddy with excitement to be able to bring you the two faces behind these legendary sessions... PAUL S and RICH FRANCIS !
Paul is no stranger to Soul City; now on his 3rd visit, last time he warmed up for Joey Negro at our slamming 2nd birthday bash... He has just started his own weekly show on pressure radio, check it out, its awesome! This will be the first time Rich has experienced the lil basement so make sure you show him a warm soul city welcome and he wont disappoint!
Soul City is really proud to keep sticking to it’s guns and providing quality music and quality dj’s for the best crowd in London, get yourselves together for what's shaping up to be another fantastic night down in the cellar.
And an extra special mention has to go to our residents this month. After nearly 3 years of keeping it soulful in the city, gav:eatmysoul has been spending more and more time saving up to see the world and less time buying records, such is the greatness of the man he didn’t feel it right to hold a place of residency when so many would kill for it.
So we bid a tearful farewell to gav...respect brother, keep eating the soul.
In his place could be no other really. Si Finnegan needs no introduction to the Soul City faithful, one half of the excellent Tone Control and edit project Hog Dogs, the man is on board and bursting to spin some crazy disco re-edit he found in a deep dark corner of some record shop.
We love his music, we love the fact he can’t stand up straight past 10pm and, though it is difficult to find a replacement, Si is the man with the plan.
Welcome on board dude.
So now with Si spinning too, our residents list reads like a who’s who of, well, er, Soul City residents. Magic.
£5 BEFORE MIDNIGHT, YOU LUCKY PEOPLE.
SATURDAY APRIL 8th
PAUL STUART & RICH FRANCIS (The Sands)
Hours:: 9 til late

Soul City - Saturday 4th February with Bobby & Steve!
Our Lords, Ladies & Gentlemen, Boys & Girls....we are BACK! Another year awaits, back in our den of iniquity, soulfulness and boogieliscious beats....we start the year off with a party and a half.
We present the legendary....BOBBY & STEVE!!!!!!
Starting in inauspicious surroundings of regular Saturday night warehouse parties, playing soul and funk with other guest DJs like Norman Jay & Trevor Nelson, Bobby & Steve swiftly moved onto the blossoming Kiss FM, then a pirate, to host their show the ‘Zoo Experience’ which ran for 10 years. Back on the streets, in they launched their Klub Zoo night in the West End of London, setting the standard for many nights that followed, including Soul City! After Klub Zoo, they launched the night that will forever be remembered by anyone who was ever a lover of soulful dance music,
the one and only Garage City, now into its 15th year.
Not only did GC get the biggest names in house and garage behind the decks, from Louie Vega to Tony Humpries and Todd Terry, it also was a friendly basement vibe where the crowd provided as much to proceedings as the DJs, sound familiar?! Add to this a fantastic roster of residents, from Rupert and Funkie P to Soul City favourite Chrissy T and its no wonder that GC holds a special place in the hearts and minds of London's clubbing elite...
Since Garage City, they have continued to set the standard with their Bobby & Steve & Friends parties in Shoreditch and Clapham, not to mention guesting at the best parties all over the world so we're truly honoured to have the twins down in our lil basement.
The only question that remains is...how come its taken so long?!
Alongside Bobby & Steve we have our own soulful twins (ok so they dont look that alike but they're both extremely good looking)
Matty Eatmysoul and King Louie! Our boys have been very very busy in recent months...they went their seperate ways on New Years Eve when Louie held down the fort at Boulevard Bar in Soho whilst Matty was busy spreading the Gospel according to Soul City up in Manchester where he and disco monkey Si Finnegan tore apart the Development back room so much that even the promoter couldnt get in! They were reunited for our trip south of the river to Babalou Brixton on New Years Day, a big thanks to all who supported us over the New Year period.
See you all in that lovely little bassment!!!
Soul City - Saturday 3rd December with Al Kent & Under The Stairs!
Who saw mummy kissing Santa Claus? Everyone did, didn't they? In which case Santa is a dirty old man. But less about that, more about the party
Soul City flies back for an extravaganza of a Christmas Party. Expect mistletoe, party hats, egg-nog and boogieliscious beats.
We wanted a real paaaaaaaa-rty. You know, the one where everyone is jumping around, hands in the air and the biggest smile on their face. Its Christmas, its time to have fun. And who better to spin the party sounds than the Million Dollar man himself, the legendary AL KENT! Having already played with us twice before, we know he's ace, he has LOTS of disco records, and everytime he plays them, the crowd goes nuts. Fact. When he's not teaching people the hustle, or spinning around the world, or conducting his Million Dollar Orchestra, he's compiling rare disco compilations for us lucky folk to feed on. Check out the excellent Disco Demands Volume One, available at www.milliondollardisco.com
Alongside the don of disco grooves we have two party nuts from Manchester - perfect guests for Soul City - UNDER THE STAIRS: Tom Lynch (also of Sheffield 's Pin-Up Club) & Chris Feinmann (also of the NHS). They started in September 2004 as a underground basement party (sound familiar?) for soulful misfits looking for a place to party. Siice then the event has been skulking around a veritable plethora of Basements and Attic spaces with the mission of bringing quality music to the city.
After many months of successful residents parties, the bald, but ever-charming UTS boysdecided to flex their business biceps and bring in some entertainment from accross the pond. Before they knew it Chris and Tom were playing host to the world's greatest live house band, Tortured Soul, followed by parties with Danny Krivit & Joe Claussell, Franck Roger, Quentin Harris and Alix Alvarez.
We are exepecting mayhem, and can't wait to see the battle with them and our resssies.....who, as always will be spinnin the soul city sound - your residents of the cellar eatmysoul and KING LOUIE. Fresh from a very drunken outing to Madame Jo Jo's where we avoided upsetting the trannies, but didn't avoid the stella, and played some crackin tunes, they will be rippin it up and maybe not starting again, but certainly playing records.
We literally can't wait. And coz we have no NYE party this year, we're hoping it will be extra fun and festive for everyone.
So, for the final time this year, come and help us keep it soulful in the city.
Soul City - Saturday 8th October with Dr Bob Jones & Neil Pierce!
Bob Jones music policy was, as it is now, the highest quality black music, featuring soul, dance and jazz, and he has been recognised worldwide as one of the first DJs ever to play jazz to a dance floor as early as 1971. In 1979 he was instrumental in DJing at the world's first ever soul and jazz Dance Weekender at Caister, and he played at the first Southport – way back in 1987 – and he’s played every single one since.
He's written for Blues & Soul, Muzik, Faith, Echoes. He's done the sleevenotes for more compilations than you can shake a stick at. He was the driving force behind "Soul Spectrum & Jazz Spectrum" for BBE and "Inspirational Dance" for Slip n Slide records. He set up "The Surgery" and "LIFT" nights in London. He's had radio shows on Kiss Fm and now has a Sunday Morning show on Juice 102.2. It was only a natural progression for him to form his own record label - Black on Black Records and Chill Funk with Lofty. He's released grooves under the “Universal Jones” and East West Connection” monikers.
It's all this and more that has earned him the reputation of being one of the world's leading authorities on the subject of black music. A legend of the soul scene it is truly an honour to have him down to Soul City.
Now.....Neil Pierce - we all know and love him. And we felt it only fitting to put alongside Bob as a Southport Resident from the beginning, a dj that we think should be there to join Bob and co. each time from now on. Neil, already a resident at Southport Sessions is playing his first Southport Weekender in November and we're all gonna be there to help make it one to remember for him! He rocks it every time we see him, he produces under the Fanatix moniker with Aaron Ross, he plays each week on House FM. He's rocked the foundations of Soul City before, and he will do the same, no doubt, this time around. Be prepared.
All this of course with your residents, keepin it soulful in the city month in, month out....eatmysoul and king louie!
Soul City - Saturday 3rd September with Jeremy Newall & Ricky Morrison!
After the fantastic tour de force that was our 2nd birthday, a riotously soulful affair featuring superb sets from Paul S & Dave Lee and a messy messy afterparty, we're back! And how!!
We are ridiculously excited to bring you two absolute legends of London's soulful nightlife.
Ladies and Gentlemen - we bring you....
Ricky Morrison & Jeremy Newall!!!
Ricky Morrison is a captain in the UK's army of Soulful Soldiers - being a Southport, Indulge, & Garage City regular, and co-founder of seminal Soho record store "Catch a Groove" which was fundamental in introducing the American house sound to the UK.
Ricky, alongside longtime production partner Fran Sidoli, formed M&S Productions who enjoyed major success with their own productions such as Soul City fave "Keep On", "Salsoul Nugget" and the brilliant "Deeper" plus a vast swathe of soulful remixes of artists such as Michelle Weeks, the Deep Bros and Ultra Nate.
We cant wait for him to make his debut in the basement, expect something special!
Its been said before, but Jeremy Newall truly needs no introduction. A true stalwart of Soul City, returning to Boulevard for an unprecedented third time, bringing an eclectic mix, from salsoul to disco funk classics along side vintage house tracks, the man literally has it all. Having rocked it EVERY time he's been down to our cellar - we couldn't resist bringin him back for some more of the same.
All this plus our fantastic team of residents: King Louie and Matt and Gav from eatmysoul, doing their grand job of warming up your feet and heart,
All for a measly £5 before 10.30 and £10 after that - Soul City is still, with your amazing help, keepin it soulful in the City.
Photos from the fantabulous 2nd Birthday are up on the website www.soulcity.info - see if you're there.
Cheers, Willy & Louie
Soul City is 2 - Saturday 6th August with Joey Negro and Paul S!
Well, what a boogie we had at the last Soul City!! Thank you to everyone who made it down to prove that London keeps grooving whatever people throw at us.
Chrissy T proved to all once again just what an amazing dj he really is – with some absolute belters (beautiful ‘respect to Luther’ session included!) the crowd couldn’t get enough of it, especially after their soul cockles had been warmed by the super Jaycee – a brilliant debut indeed, and of course the residents – gav, matt from eatmysoul and the kingster louie……fantastic.
So ….after all that – we’re now preparing for an extra special one!!
Our SECOND BIRTHDAY is around the corner (Saturday 6th August) and I think you all know now that we've been extra lucky in getting Dave Lee aka.Joey Negro/Sunburst Band/Doug Willis and about a million other monikers to show us just how soulful the cellar can get !
He made Disco cool when they said it was dead. He was one of the first to sample disco music and was largely responsible for the term Disco House. A HUGE inspiration in one way or another to most soulful dj's playing today - we can't underestimate what Dave has done for the scene. How excited are we?? Just a little bit ;0)
And supporting Dave, one of Soul City's favourite soulful nuts. He has wowed us with his past exploits behind the decks at Soul City. His mix cd's have formed a series in people's collections bigger and better than most labels that exist today. We're really pleased to have him back........hold your hats off in respect to - Paul Stuart !!!!!
And with eatmysoul and king louie continuing to do their amazing stuff…we're sure that August will be a birthday to remember. Expect one of the very best Soul City's EVER!
Because its quite probably gonna be a sell out – we’re doing this as a ticket only event. You can get them online by going to http://www.soulcity.info/tickets.htm You can buy up to 5 each and we require the names of ALL guests coming.
Cheers & thank you for your support – it’s brilliant.
Willy & Louie………Keepin it Soulful in the City for 2 years!!!
Soul City with Chrissy T and JayCee - Saturday 9th July
After another stormin Soul City last month - massive thanks must go out to all of those who came down and partied ALL NIGHT to the soulful soulful sounds of Boz, Piers and eatmysoul! With the dancefloor rammed right until the end AGAIN, it was another great performance from the best crowd in the country…
This month we're on a week later, July 9th (not july 2nd as some of the flyers say!), and we are VERY proud to welcome two brilliant DJs to our lil basement.
First up we have JayCee making his Soul City debut. Since we first head his excellent mix CDs we knew we wanted to get him down in front of the Soul City crowd and we've finally been able to get him to do it.....!! Expect a heady mix of disco and edits as Jay has promised us he'll be digging very deep for this one...
Alongside Jay, we have a Soul City favourite making a triumphant return... He's one of the UK's most well known and respected DJ's and an all round top fella to boot - we bring you Chrissy T!!
As we all know, Chrissy is reknowned for playing his favourite disco grooves and championing the more soulful and gospel influenced side of the music. A seminal part of Bobby & Steve's "Zoo Crew" and co founder of the Garage City parties, (where willy learnt house), Chrissy has been loved far and wide around the world.
More to the point, he absolutely tore it up at Soul City when he last played.....so we couldn't resist in having him back...
All this with of course the soullful scoundrels eatmysoul and drunken monkey King Louie for the measley sum of £5 before 10.30pm, £10 after!
You know the score by now, Soul City London, accept NO imitations...
See you there
Louie and Willy
Keepin it Soulful in the City...

It's Willy's birthday and so we've his all time fav's lined up.
At this point, we doth our cap and give respect to Southport Weekender, our twice yearly pilgrimage to all things soulful, where the idea for our little night was born!
Soul City is very very very proud, in fact almost hyper with excitement to present The legendary residents from Southport : Billy Davidson & Steve Butler
What better way to warm up for May?
Anyone that has been to Southport over the countless sessions they have ruled will know what a special feeling there is for these guys. A "MUST SEE" in everyone's timetables and now very much part of the weekender tradition. Their deep and truly soulful sounds have stopped the dancefloor in awe, literally seconds before they send them mental with their awesome gems. Anyone that has yet to go to Southport - this will make up your mind - a truly brilliant event, still the leader of Soulful Sounds in the UK.
Billy of course has played both back in December '02 and at our first birthday, back in July.......Steve was seen groovin on the floor to Neil Pierce in February, checkin out what he's got himself into. Soul City New Year - Al Kent and Jeremy Newall!
After running highly successful parties for over a year, Soul City return to host our first ever NYE Party, and this time we're pulling out all the stops to guarantee our faithful family the best New Years Eve ever! We've looked back at our parties and chosen three of the finest DJs that have ever graced the Soul City turntables, it wasn't easy but we wanted to make sure this would be a party for everyone to remember...
First up, the easiest decision of all was to ensure the return of the mighty Al Kent
, flying in from Glasgow EXCLUSIVELY
for Soul City. Back in August he played a simply amazing set, mostly consisting of re-edits made especially for the night and everyone we've spoke to that was there have begged us to get him back.
If you were there, you'll know...if you weren't, don't miss out again!
Alongside Al, we are proud to announce the return of Soul City favourite Jeremy Newall
Jeremy last played for us at our 1st birthday bash in July, when he warmed the hearts and souls of the Soul City faithful with a fantastic mix of soulful house music, new and old.
A near-permanent fixture on our dancefloor whether he's playing or not, we can't wait to hear what he's got in store for us...
Finally, we have Tom Greig
who burst from out of nowhere to perform a fantastic set last February. Another regular face to our lil' basement party, Tom knows exactly what makes the boys move their feet and the girls shake their booty and wont disappoint.
All this plus your residents, eatmysoul and King Louie for the stupidly low ticket price of £10.
Make sure that you get them well in advance as it will cost more on the night.
Tickets are available by calling Willy (07867908901) or Louie (07813785558)

Keeping New Year Soulful in the City....
Soul City October Report!
Soul City was in the form of it's life on Saturday 2nd October !!
Thank you to EVERYONE who came and we're really sorry to those we had to turn away but the place was rammed...hopefully we'll see you next time.
Firstly - eatmysoul, getting the place jumpin, full dancefloor by 11pm and it stayed that way till 4am!
They were followed by Sir Piers who played a simply brilliant set, showing that hes not just a brilliant producer, he can DJ too!
Finally Si Haggis brought the place to its knees for the closing set, dancefloor refusing to do anything other than dance their heads off.......all we can remember is a whole club full of love, absolutely amazing.
The people make Soul City, totally and utterly - a better crowd of people you will just not find, up for fun ALL night!!
Thank you so much. We were back with a bang and a half, hopefully we'll see you all for a very very special party on New Years Eve as we are very close to announcing the best line up in London on the biggest night of the year...details to come...
Once again, thank you to everyone......the underground is very much alive and kicking hard.
We kept it soulful in the city, in style.
Louie & Willy
Soul City Returns!
After a month off, Soul City returns on Saturday the 2nd October and boy are we coming back with a bang!
Always wanting to give you good value we're not putting one just one, but two headline DJs to provide you with the aural satisfaction that you demand and deserve.
Yes you lucky people, this month we are proud to welcome both Simon Haggis AND Sir Piers!
Simon is the main man behind Whistlebump, without a doubt the best party in London today. Now nearing it's fifth year, WhistleBump and the annual WhistleBoat parties on the river have played host to some of the best talent around; from the likes of Dave Lee to Ashley Beedle, Gilles Peterson to Basement Jaxx, and Danny Krivit to Osunlade.
The new WhistleBump label is Simon's latest project and will see releases from some of the UK's finest producers, like the debut outing, Soul Central's 'Strings of Life', already a bona-fide classic on the Soul CIty dance floor. It's his primary love of djing however, that has taken Simon all over the globe to play alongside some of the world's best DJ's and working crowds with sets of soulful house to deep electronica and disco classics.
Sir Piers is carving a path as a DJ and solo artist. Support for his production work consistently coming from the biggest household names across the genre including MAW, Matthias Heilbronn, Terry Hunter, Phil Asher, Miguel Migs, & Frankie Feliciano to name but a few. Better known releases so far include his massive remix of Alicia Keys' 'if I aint got you' which absolutely destroyed the Soul City dance floor on its debut in June and has been a firm favourite ever since, and the massive soulful hit 'Don't You Love Me' by Sir Piers feat Monique Bingham which appeared on numerous high profile compilation albums including the likes of Hed Kandi and Defected.
As always, we have Soul City's hosts with the most - eatmysoul and King Louie.....residents extraordinaire!!
What can we say - a fully charged soulful soirée is guaranteed - don't miss it!!
Willy and Louie
Still keeping it soulful in the city...
Soul City did Disco!
What a night!
Weddings, holidays, gay pride (!) and Leo Sayers in the sun took some of
our family off to pastures new but without any shadow of a doubt, last Saturday was a SOUL CITY CLASSIC!
We always said that we like to do things a bit different here at soul city and we proved that by flying Al Kent, the king of disco, down to our lil basement to give you something other than the identikit lineups seen at
other nights around the city. And he didnt disappoint, people! HE ROCKED!
Matt from eatmysoul started things off on the good foot, with an excellent selection of the finest soul and disco,
easing us into the madness that wasto come...
He was followed by Tony Hayzer, a true gentleman, who took things to another level with a soulful house set as
good as we've heard on the hallowed Soul City turntables, thanks big man!
Up next was Gav eatmysoul who stormed through another set of deeply
soulful sounds - Karen Anderson "i work hard (to love you)", Patti
labelle "new day"
and Kim Beacham "looking up" were just some of the treats that wowed the
Then came King Louie, who welcomed back Tony Hayzer to go back to back
for an hour playing some excellent disco house
which set the scene nicely for the main man on the night, Mr Al Kent,
who started things off with his own excellent rework of Archie Bell &
The Drells' Soul City Walk, followed up by some real corkers - Deodato
"Whistlebump", Johnnie Taylor "What about my Love" plus many more.
Absolute and unadulterated quality from start to finish!
Then, as soon as it began, it was over (especially for Louie) but we
wanna give a BIG special thanks to our hardcore who made it down,
and didnt stop dancing all night, we love you!
Photos from the night can now be seen on www.soulcity.info\photos.html
Details of the next party to come...
Soul City does Disco! - Sat 7th August!
After a rampaging first birthday where the cellar truly shook - we're back once more and we're doin it in style.
This time, we've decided to do things a little bit different so dust off your gladrags and run a comb through your 'fro cos for one month only......Soul City Does Disco!!!
We certainly dont do things by halves here, so when we decided to have a disco special there was only one person who we could get to headline, a purveyor of the finest tunes of the glitter ball and the undisputed king of disco in the UK, flying in from bonnie Scotland for an EXCLUSIVE
appearance, none other than Mr Al Kent
Fors those of you that arent familiar with his work Al Kent runs the excellent Million Dollar Disco label (www.milliondollardisco.com) and records under the names Magic Touch (responsible for the classic "Good inside" and the recent smash, the Chic-sampling "Dreams") and Secret Sounds (with Milton Jackson) as well as brilliant tracks under his own name (like "saturday night" and the newest MDD "soul man")...Dont miss out, with his selection of classic disco and his own edits he'll be really spoiling us!
Alongside Al we have a soul city stalwart and all round proper house guy - Tony Hayzer
. Expect some real tasty disco and house from the man who made our friday evenings even more frantic than normal with his show on the sadly now defunkt, Soul24-7. Now hear him on www.vibe365.com where hes continuing to fly the flag for soulful house on the airwaves...
As always we have the delights of Soul City residents Matt and Gav from eatmysoul
and King Louie
taking to the wheels for some special action. We can't wait, and with more and more people hearing good reports from our little cellar it will be a party to remember!
Louie & Willy
keepin it disco in the city...
Soul City is One! - Sat 3rd July!
The last Soul City was truly a stonker!!!
If anyone failed to get down for that, shame on you...it was one of the very best yet. The night started with Matt from eatmysoul
spinnin some class tunes - a touch of genius - dropping "Soul City Walkin" getting a cheer from Willy. Then Paul Stuart took to the stage, alternately wowing and
wooing us with some real quality house, ranging from the upmost of upfront soulful house to classics from many years ago!
The tunes were flyin out and, once again, the dancefloor was ram-a-jammed from 10.30 straight through til close!! Next up was Gav from eatmysoul layin down some truly deep and soulful tracks, blending the night ready for the main man Chrissy T, who rocked it as only he knows how, tune after tune of beautiful soulful house music, and a reminder of just how special Garage City was...
Finally the lovable rogue Louie took to the decks and changed gear slightly with some broken beats and dubs before being joined by Matt for the finale, which saw plenty o smiles and chants for more from the Soul City faithful!
A truly superb night can only be followed, this month with, it's quite scary really, our first birthday!!!
We're pretty sure most of you can remember just how nervous (and extremely mullered!) we both were on the door for the first Soul City, all those months (well..a year) ago.
How we've changed. Not.
We're more than just a little excited by the treats in store for this party. Nothing will be spared to make sure this is one of the best nights any of us will go to in 2004.
To celebrate everything that Soul City stands for, we've got an absolutely awesome line-up, and we think (some smart jerk will probably tell us otherwise)
the first time these two greats have ever lined up together...ladies and gentlemen, we bring you 3 HOUR SETS from the mighty
and Jeremy Newall
For our Soul City and Southport regulars Billy needs no introduction, we's wowed the crowds at the weekender since the beginning and gave us a taste of what he can do at our Christmas party at the Glasshouse. We promised Billy (and ourselves) that we'd get him to play in our little basement as soon as we could, and what better time than our birthday celebration?!
Joining Billy, we are ecstatic to welcome Jeremy for his Soul City debut. Jeremy has been at the forefront of the London dance scene for nearly 20 years. His legendary 3 year residency at Paul Trouble's seminal night The Loft and his position at many of the capitals most respected independent Record Shops including Reckless, Release the Groove, Catch a Groove, Soul II Soul and Red Records have cemented his place in the minds and hearts of clubbers, not just in London, but around the world.
We're jittery with excitement, and we're pretty sure this is gonna sell out totally and utterly, so get there early to make sure you're in.
Louie and Willy
Keeping it soulful in the city...
Soul City with Chrissy T - Sat 5th June!
Well, the dust has settled on Soul City and the Southport Weekender, and boy, were they two weekends to remember!
But first, what about our last party. Cooorrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr Blimey. As Louie would say. Residentos eatmysoul were flyin through a set of disco, stormin house with a dancefloor heating up by the second. From the sublime to the northern heady heights of Jacko and Cappa. Some of the regulars were baffled to see the extra equipment that was set up, but all became clear later on, when they took to the (four!) soul city decks. By now the dancefloor was jumping and the northern boys treated us to an amazing set, layering tracks, dropping accapellas and all sorts of technical wizardy!.
You loved every minute of it, the cheers and shouts from the faithful crowd were testament to that...
Too many vodkas later for willy - Collin Patterson arrives and as with every single time we’ve seen him - rips the place apart. Hands aloft, tunes a pumpin, the crowd WOULD NOT leave!
A big thank you to everyone who grooved down to the last one, to Jacko and Cappa for a truly memorable set and to Collin for once again delivering 100% quality goods.
So what now? How do we follow that?
Like a good army of soulfools, we march on…….5th June is the next party, and, well….it just gets better and better.
We are very, very proud to welcome a legend on the UK soulful house scene and one of the UK's most well known and respected DJ's, original Garage City resident and now Z Records family member, Chrissy T
Stalwart of everything with a soulful groove for the past, I don’t know how many years & famed for his uplifting soulful house & garage and classic disco sets, Chrissy cant wait to play for the best god'damn crowd in the capital! Expect something special....
Alongside Chrissy we have Southport veteran and Cool Note compadre - Paul Stuart. Spinnin his unmistakeable blend of all things soulful, we are dead excited to have him in our wee cellar.
And as always, matt and gav of eatmysoul fresh from their VIP set at Southport (yes that was willy on the bongos) and king louie bringing the patented blend of Soul City grooves to the family.
Can’t wait. Can’t wait. It will be great to see you all again...
Louie and Willy
Keeping it soulful in the city...
Next Soul City - Saturday May 1st!!
Soul City are back, and better than ever!!
May 1st is the date for your diarys, and what a date it is...as its a BANK HOLIDAY WEEKEND and, even more importantly, its also Willy's birthday! Yes, the best god'damn promoter in the capital is going to be one year older and cannot think of anyone better than to share in his celebration than you, the SC family.
As for musical delights on the night, we are very, very, happy to welcome back the star of the funking great Saturday Afternoon Sessions at the Southport Weekender, Collin Patterson
! Collin abosolutely tore the roof off at Soul City back in July 2003, and we promised ourselves straight away that we'd get him back, so if you missed him the first time, dont let it happen again!! He'll be bringing a little bit of the Southport Weekender to London a week early!
Alongside Collin are two very very good friends of Soul City and two rising stars on the Northern Soulful house scene.
Both residents at the legendary OnHubertStreet, the night up north that is making itself heard BIG TIME across the ocean, we
bring you Dave Jackson
and his ohsosoulful compadre Si Cappa
- and they're gonna be performing on 4, yes count em, 4 decks!!
All this plus your residents eatmysoul and King Louie.
See you there!!!
23th February : Next Soul City - Saturday March 6th!!
Yes, it only seems like the last one was yesterday, but we're already getting ready for the next party in the dirty lil' basement!
The next Soul City is Saturday 6th March, and boy have we got a special treat for you!!
Gracing the hallowed Soul City decks this month are two of the South Coast's finest Djs:
Firstly, Jonny B
, who started off at the (in)famous Old Oriental nightclub in Southampton with DJ pal James Zabiela and a budding young MC known as Craig David!
Jonny's style soon progressed and it wasnt long before he caught the eye of Soulsonic promoter Stuart Patterson, who booked him to play at the Sundaysonic @ Notting Hill Arts club. Then Jonny was lucky enough to play at Faith, probably the highest accolade a house DJ can achieve in London today!
Alongside Jonny is a friend of Soul City who has been spotted on the SC dancefloor many times over the past year, Neil MacLean
! Like Jonny, Neil started DJing in clubs in Southampton, but has since moved into promoting both the DeepSoul3 website and parties, soon to be launched at Plan B in Brixton.
All this plus your residents eatmysoul and King Louie...dont miss out!!
Neil MacLean (DeepSoul3)
19th February : Soul City got in TROUBLE!!
We're back....and back with a boom. Thanks to all those that came down to our wee cellar...and, well, completely and utterly rocked it. The night was, for us, utterly brilliant...we forgot how good that vibe is - but it just went off totally!!
We'd even go so far as to say that you made that the best Soul City ever, and for that we thank you!
King Louie hit the groove from the off, then new boy Tom Greig took it to another level, spinnin some soulful beauties and totally warming up an already hot dancefloor. It was one of the best warm up sets we've ever heard at Soul City and rest assured he's a name people will hear more of in the future..thanks Tom.
Then came Mr Paul 'Trouble' Anderson. Who, in between humping the monitor, swinging from the rafters, pushing the stunning soundsystem to the absolute limit (our ears were hurting so good!), and generally causing havoc behind the decks, pulled out some absolutely crackin tunes...the place was jumpin, the roof was shaking....and hands were in the air!
"HURT ME, HURT ME" he cried, as the crowd hooped and hollered - felt like we were all in duuuuuurty brooklyn!!
Then, after a spectaular finish from Trouble it was once again time for eatmysoul to grace the Soul City decks that they have made their own and yes, once again, they ripped up the dancefloor. When strings of life hit soul city....the place exploded.
A wonderful night, with wonderful people and wonderful music.
9th January : Soul City's Basement of Love with Paul Trouble Anderson!!
First we just wanna thank Barry and Billy and all of you, our loyal following, for making it down to the Glasshouse on the 6th. Despite the late change of venue, and the marauding Faliraki hordes surrounding us we still managed to pull of a spectacular party, we have only you to thank for that!
Happy New Year!!
Yes, just as soon as it started, its all over. The turkey has gone, the tree is back in the attic and grandma is back in the home with her new slippers that you got from Primark!
But its not all doom and gloom, oh no, its only 4 weeks till the next Soul City!!
And boy have we got a line up to banish those January blues because, ladies and gentlemen, we are proud to bring you the godfather of soulful house in the UK,

Keeping it troublesome
in the city...
4th December : More Stop Press News!!
yesterday it came to our attention that Alist, the promoters responsible for Saturday night at Egg, had double booked the loft bar where we were supposed to be holding Soul City.
We were still allowed to play, but it would have meant sharing the time with more DJs, and an extra 250 people trying to get into the room.
We didnt want to put you, the best crowd in London through that so we decided to say "thanks but no thanks".
It just wasnt the Soul City way. We hope that its not too late notice to change you plans.
The good news is that, thanks to the tireless efforts of Willy (who's spent the best part of 2 days running round london trying to find a room!),
we have acquired a room at another top club, namely The Glasshouse in Blackfriars!!
Yes, we're still gonna bring you 3 rooms the soulful sounds of Billy Davidson, On Hubert Streets finest Barry May and,
of course, your fantastic residentos eatmysoul and King "relieved" Louie!!! Add to this a beautiful riverside location,
access via the Circle and District lines and I think you'll agree its much better than some dive in the middle of Kings Cross Goods Yard!! (easy now)
so, if there is any confusion, please dont hesitate to contact Willy (email@example.com, 07867908901)
or Louie (firstname.lastname@example.org, 07813785558), and we'll fill in the blanks.
sorry about this guys but with your help we'll make sure that this will still be remembered as the best Soul City ever!!!

28th July 2003: Soul City II Report
they said it couldnt get any better....
We did it again!! Oh boy, we did it again, and the name Soul City is now
hot on the lips of those in search of a damn soulful party!! Thank you all
for ensuring that Soul City II went off in big style last saturday. Even
the torrential rain couldnt dampen the spirits as 150 like-minded groovers
made sure that it was hot, hot, hot in a certain funky basement in London.
Your fantastic residentos eatmysoul kicked off the soulful stylee, warming the
wet souls with a quality selection of tunes and paving the way for the man
like The Strange One to lay the smack down with a fantastic set and prove just
why he was called upon to do this thing.
From nowhere eatmysoul were back on, classics flying out, "that's the way
love is!" people sang, bodies jackin (well, willy's anyway) hands
wavin...you remember that...and the whistle?? Who had the whistle...answers
on a postcard please!
This set things up perfectly for the very very special guest, Mr Collin
Patterson, who absolutely destroyed the place with a wicked set, reminding
everyone just how good it was that sunny Saturday in May. "Feel the vibe,
feeeeel the presssssssurrrre!!!" Many Many happy faces groovin their hearts
out. And what a way to end the night....the last half hour, Collin and some
bloke called King Louie on it for some back to back action - we salute you
But the main memory of the night was the crowd. We just want to thank YOU,
the Soul City massive, again for making it the night it was. You're getting
quite a reputation for yourselves!!
See you at Soul City III on the 20th September, for an extra special
King Louie birthday bash!! Expect debauchery....

22nd June 2003: Opening Nite Success!
For those of you that joined us for our launch, thank you.....and
again. The first one was good, no, it was great. The people were amazing,
the tunes were flyin, we almost cried at the excellent
vibe kicking off in our cheeky little basement.
How can we follow that? Well, it's here people, Saturday 26th July is
Soul City II, we want you to join us once more.... and we have just
a little something extra for the special groovers helping us keep it soulful
in the city.
For all those who attended the last Southport Weekender, our special guest
needs no introduction, he is the awesome Collin Patterson,
who will be bringing some of those soulful and funky vibes he showered us
with one sunny day in may. Alongside Collin, we have another guest DJ who
will be well known to the Southport massive, due to his incomparable mix CDs
that are highly sought after and cherished by the lucky few that possess them.
Ladies and gentlemen, we give you The Strange One! All this and who can forget
your residents, eatmysoul and King Louie, who will bring their patented
brand of house, disco, soul and anything boogieliscious!!
